Sep 05, 2017

In China, the annual producing capacity of the paddy is 200 million tones, and its consumption amount per year is 190 million tones. Thus, China is the largest paddy import and consumption country in the world.

In July 2017, China and U.S. just agreed an alignment, and U.S. will be allowed to import the rice in history. In the past 10 years, China’s rice import amount had increased 9 times since 2011. Till 2016, China’s rice import amount reached 3.54million tones and import value was 1.586 billion US dollars, which was the highest value.

China’s rice mainly imports from Viet Nam, not from Thailand or Japan. In 2016, Viet Nam exported approximately 1.62 million tones to China, taking 45.8% among the overall rice import amount. Ranking after Viet Nam, Thailand is the second large rice export country to China, about 33.3% percentage. Other countries such as Cambodia, Myanmar, in total take about 8% percentage.

Regarding U.S. rice exported to China, it majorly includes long rice or medium rice, and it aims at Chinese high-end market.
